The Mellor is for the more professional goldwork embroiderer.

It has a dual purpose as it can be used like a stiletto to widen a hole in any fabric to enable larger threads to be pushed through, this sharper pointed end can also be used to create corners on the wires.

The more rounded end can be used as a laying tool to help position the wires for techniques such as "purls over string" or "cut work"

The embroidery mellor is gentler than using a pair of tweezers as the rounded end has a champered edge.

The Mellor is mainly used for goldwork but can be used for other techiques such as Japanese embroidery.

As its paddle like handle and stiletto point can be used for laying the silk thread flat.
